All of our whitetail, exotic deer and sheep are free roaming animals. These animals were born and raised in the wild. Since our ranch encompasses 10,500 acres, under game fence, our deer have the ability to establish territories as well as travel long distances. None of our deer are pen raised or hunted in small sections. In other words, this hunt is in the true sense of the word, “fair chase.”

Our hunting guides have years of hunting experience in Texas and know the ranch very well. In advance of your scheduled hunting date, we scout in order to give you the best opportunity to harvest your animal. However, we must stress that we cannot control Mother Nature or any other conditions that might impede your success. The West Kerr Ranch offers you superb deer habitat, an adequate population of whitetail & exotic species to hunt, a knowledgeable guide, and the opportunity to harvest a trophy animal.

Booking a Hunt- Our hunts are booked on a first-come first-served basis and are limited. Personal checks, Zelle or Credit card will be accepted for initial deposits. Deposits are due to secure your hunting dates and are non-refundable. Dates booked and secured by deposit may be changed with advance notice. Rescheduling fee may be applied. Additional Hunting Days- All of our package hunts include 2 or 3 days of hunting. We encourage booking extra days of hunting to help increase your chance of success. During whitetail season the extra day of hunting is $350 per day. $300 per day during the off-season.

Hunting Groups- We welcome single hunters & large groups.

Guests- We can accommodate non-hunting guests and children at an additional charge of $150 per day. During Whitetail Season the non-hunting guest fee is $200 per day.

Shooting Range – provides hunters with two covered shooting benches with a 50, 100 & 200 yard target. We also have a long range available for shooting up to 700 yards.

Cleaning Station– We offer two walk-in-coolers with 6 electric wenches and a covered railing system that gives all the hunters the convenience of feeling like you’re at a professional processor.

Game Dressing- field dressing, caping, quartering is included in your hunting package. Deboning is not included. If you'd like to donate your meat we'll do our best to find a family in need or donate it to the Hunter's for the Hungry for an additional fee.

Guide Fees- All the package hunts are semi-guided, unless indicated on the package. Semi-guided means your guide will take you to and from the field but they don't need to sit with you at all times. We can arrange a fully-guided hunt if needed. Gratuity is not included with any of the package hunts but greatly appreciated.

Wounded Game- Your guide will determine whether the animal was hit or missed. A full applicable fee is required on hit and wounded animals not recovered.

Rescheduling Fee- In an event of an emergency there will be a rescheduling fee applied.

Payment - Checks, Zelle or Credit card are accepted. Convenience fee will be applied with a credit card.

All packages listed below give the hunter the opportunity to harvest all animals listed in the purchased package.

Whitetail Hunts

West Division Over a decade, we've been enhancing our management program by offering free choice supplement feeding on the West Division of the ranch. Protein is very important for overall body growth and required for successful growth, antler development, and reproduction. These bucks will produce heavier mass, longer tine length and wider spreads than average Hill Country bucks. We've seen huge improvements in the overall quality of the deer on 3,500 acres. This particular package offer hunters the opportunity to harvest a super charged whitetail buck. This hunt is guided on the West Division. You are welcome to select any mature buck of your choosing as long as the deer is 6.5 years or older.

The West Kerr Ranch has created an intensive management program on the West Division of the ranch. We are culling all mature 8 or 9 points up to 129 gross to hopefully help produce more multiple point bucks with higher B&C scores in the future. These super management bucks will typically have heavier mass, longer tine length and wider spreads than the average Hill Country bucks. The super management buck is a mountable deer and will be a trophy buck in many hunters' eyes.

Management Buck Hunt:

Management Whitetail Bucks are on 10,500 acres located on both the East and West Division of the ranch. The West Kerr Ranch participates in a selective culling program in order to remove genetic inferiorities or abnormalities from our buck herd. Because we have had great success with this program, we can only book a handful of these type hunts each year. Your guide will sit in the blind with you in order to determine which buck qualifies as a management deer, but the following criteria serve as guidelines:

  • A mature buck with six, seven or eight points.
  • A buck that is missing one or both eye guards.
  • The buck must meet at least one of the above factors.

The management buck is a mountable deer that would make a good first buck for adult or child alike.

East Trophy Whitetail Buck Package:

Trophy Whitetail Buck are on 7,500 acres located on the East Division of the ranch. This area is prime deer habitat developed over 20 years of intense game management. Light rotational grazing, population control, prescribed fire and cedar clearing has enhanced for growth and created the best natural territories in the Texas Hill Country. A hunter usually has a number of multi-point bucks to choose from with a variety of exotics to observe.

The hunt is semi-guided. If you would prefer that a guide sit in the blind with you to help you judge the size and age of your buck, please ask. You may select a mature deer 5.5 years or older. We have aging charts available to assist you in determining what a mature buck looks like in the field.

Exotic Hunting

Because each exotic species behaves differently in the wild, we offer a number of hunting methods. We have “blinds or stands” with automatic feeders nearby. Depending on weather and habitat conditions at the time of your hunt, you may be hunting from these locations. The second style of hunting is “safari”. Exotics sometimes run in herds, and with much territory to cover, vehicles are often used to locate the animals. The third style of hunt is known as “spot and stalk.” Once the herd is located, your guide may advise a short hike in order to successfully harvest your trophy. He or she may also incorporate any combination of these hunting styles, always keeping your success and safety foremost in our mind. The only hunting method used during whitetail season is blind hunting. We don’t safari style or spot & stalk during the months of October, November & December.

Exotics can be hunted year around. They have no specific season as specified by the State of Texas. However, certain species are better hunted in certain months of the year. Our booking agent will suggest the optimum time to hunt each type of exotic.

Rio Grande Turkey Hunts

Our Turkey Hunt is semi-guided, allowing each hunter the opportunity to harvest two mature gobblers. We don’t allow the harvest of Jakes. The hunt will begin at noon and end at noon. Each hunter will be assigned a large amount of acreage to hunt, allowing everyone to move around freely. We have numerous roosts located throughout the ranch. Upon arrival, we will get you settled in and then head out for the evening hunt. Your guide will drop you off a couple hundred yards from the roost and pick you up 30 minutes before sunset.

Turkeys have the same basic habitat requirements as other wildlife species in that they require food, cover, and water. We provide food the entire fall and continue to feed milo and corn during the spring. There are water tanks located throughout the ranch. If calling becomes discouraging, you are welcome to set up a pop-up-blind or build a small brush blind near a feeder or water tank.

Disturbances such as increased human encroachment or hunting in the roost sites can cause turkeys to abandon the site, so we don’t allow turkeys to be shot of the roost. We only allow shot gun or bows to be used; sorry, no rifles. Lodging is provided on the ranch where you can cook your own meals. The climate can be warm during the spring, so we suggest bringing some kind of snake protection. We tend to have a high success rate on our turkey hunts, but, of course, each year can vary.
